Listen to the flower people
It finally comes to me why John Kerry's line about a global test seems so funny. Here's what he said (below for details): "The test I was talking about is a test of legitimacy — not just in the globe, but elsewhere."
Compare this gag line from Spinal Tap:
David: We toured the world, we toured the States...
Derek: We toured the world and elsewhere.
David: It was, it was a dream come true.
6 Comments:
Bush: We say, "Love your brother." We don't say it really, but...
Cheney: We don't literally say it.
Bush: No, we don't say it.
Cheney: We don't really, actually mean it.
Bush: No, we don't believe it either, but...
Cheney: But we're not racists.
Bush: But that message should be clear.
Now, Dave... You're putting funny words into the Coservatrons' mouths. It's not Bush and Cheney, but Nigel and David (Hey, like you!).
Anyway, here's another funny part of Spinal Tap, sense we're on the subject:
===
Derek: You know, we've grown musically... I mean, listen to some
of the rubbish we did early on, it was stupid...
Marty: Yeah.
Derek: ...you know. Now, I mean a song like "Sex Farm", we're
taking a sophisticated view of the idea of sex, you know,
and music...
Marty: ...and put it on a farm?
Derek: Yeah.
===
After the first debate, Bush was asked if he felt bad losing to Kerry. His response: "Well, I'm sure I'd feel much worse if I weren't under such heavy sedation."
One more: When Bush was first asked whether he'd like to be president, he said, "Well, I don't know, wh-wh-what are the hours?"
OK, one more:
What day did the Lord create the religious right, and couldn't he have rested on that day, too?
See, Dave, it's funny because John Kerry was imitating Spinal Tap, not because you think Spinal Tap imitates conservatives.
Art imitates life, and vice versa. It's just funny because Spinal Tap is the funniest movie ever made and I saw an excuse to post some quotes...
